This is my cross pollination video. I took my core video projection and then turned it into a cartoon through illustrator and back through iMovie. For some reason when I was editing the video it wouldn't let me crop it to the proportions I want, I think I must have done something wrong in illustrator because it was fine when I was working there.

For digital Imaging our three obstructions are to use a scanner, to place a secret, and to use one of the four elements. I have been looking for inspiration from dada ism and surrealism. I am definetely going to mostly composite my image through a scanner. I also want to do something with human anatomy, and the body as a machine, still thinking about my core project and wanting to make a 2-d image of my concept.

Degenerate Art Ensemble

http://vimeo.com/14471879
Fot tonights thursday guest we had the Degenerate Art Ensemble come and talk to us. They are a performance company that collaborate through many mediums of art to get what they want. They use composers, sculptors, animation, dance, acting, etc. as mediums for their work.  It was nice to see Cornish alumni collaborating later on in life as we do here. After they spoke I went up and asked them their opinion on my core project, and got some great feedback. Now I am trying to take a concept and then reflect on that and what the concept means as a physical force which was something that I had not really thought of before. I had, but I had given myself limitations. And also as artists doing some type of prosthesis, using our bodies as gears is important because our bodies are interacting with the pieces we are making whether we like it or not. So we might as well enhance either our bodies with the piece or create a piece that can enhance our bodies.

I think I have officially solved all of my issues with my core project, I think that my boundaries are correct to the standards of the class which is good. I have changed a lot of my project.. A lot of people have been saying that my work seems very feminist, and I don't like that so I am shying away from any of my typical feminine aesthetic. I am trying to make myself as unisex as possible by wearing a peacoat and i will wear baggy black pants and black boots. I am keeping the mask, not necessarily hinting at either men or women. I am also now instead of embellishing a dress will create a sort of back pack contraption and tomorrow I am going to find a way to make a sort of cookoo clock effect with an anatomical heart and some gears or something, we shall see.. I have several fall back pieces if this idea does not work.
Note to self:
exterior vs. interior
work vs. worth
body vs. time
losing time vs. losing acceptance
mental vs. physical
unisex
seen as an object machine mentally... we are physical machine
masking human feelings
debate on crown giving a mortal vs immortal
For my digital imaging project I'm taking this video and putting the images into Adobe Illustrator and making it a cartoon. And then putting the images back together to make the video again, this will be fun because I cannot find any of the images that I used to create the video... Fuck.

Five Obstructions:
I think that as an artist we are always referring to the past for inspiration. The movie Five Obstructions has been a clear of example of what the process of art is like and really should be like. I liked that Lars wanted to see if Jorgen could make a “crappy” piece of art. I think it is a good way to learn, and I also loved the fight towards making something still amazing he had. Even if it was for his own pride. Also a source of boundaries is something that comes help a piece of art so much. Many artists, try to find a way into creating their own boundaries. But when given them in a specific way, to hurt you can be difficult. I think that Jorgen succeeded throughout all of the obstructions. It was good to see him get frustrated and use what he has from his surroundings as inspiration. My favorite obstruction was the first one. I think it made the most sense, the feeling was the most memorable and the emphasis he put on scenes (with the 12 frames) made the video feel a certain way. It also I think related to his first video the most. That doesn’t neccesarily make it better but it is just an observation. Because “The Perfect Human” I think takes a look at humans in many different angles. The videos sometimes felt really abstract, and there was strong emotion throughout all of them that I like.
I liked the narration in all of them. In my art I like to create instructions for the viewer and I connected with that. I also liked the un-biased view of the human being, sort of a study. The bit about walking in a white room with no limitations was really a lovely thought.
The video has made me think of a lot of ways to go about video art that I would like to explore.

For the five obstructions I am placing myself in a white room and sitting in a chair. I have written a script that I will narrate, I do not know if I should be the one that speaks in the second part yet or not. I will act throughout according to the script. When I fly it will be me hovering in the room, and when I die I will get pen ink and let it bleed through through images. The very last part where I die, I will be laying on the ground. And I also really loved the woman lying and the way she was breathing in his video, so I really want to use that throughout the whole video.
Dialogue for five obstructions:
Look at me
I am the perfect human
Look at me
Look in my eyes
Aren’t they perfect
I am the perfect human
Watch me fly
See me fly?
I am flying
I fly because I am perfect
I am flying
Because I want to
Look at me
I do what I want
Do you know what I want?
I want to take up space
On earth I take up space
That makes me perfect

See the human
She is the perfect human
See the human
Look in her eyes
Aren’t they perfect
She is the perfect human
Watch her die
See her die?
She is dying
She dies because she is human
She is dying
Because she must
Look at her
She does what she must
Do you know what she must?
She must take up space
On earth she must take up space
That makes her human
That makes her perfect

The bug lays in a light,
it's wings show hues that do not compare
to the pinks in my fleshy tones.
But we are plundering in echoes
of layered gravity.
Weighted by a beat that moves us.
Flailing, our eyes flutter
above our heads
in a jar made of glass.
Placed
without knowing the things we cannot hear.
Obscured images,
making things unclear.

Vito Acconci Theme Song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAf6zKRb1wI

I am the one who takes
The one who floats away
She makes me wait away

Finding time oh what becomes of them
Take their shine make it mine
Finding ways
To fly through moonlight

Take time and give it to me
Let me sit in it
And dry my hair
in the sun that passes through my eyes

But my eyelashes are curling
The sun passes though my eyes
Just like before

Let me give the time I took
I am the one who takes
The one who floats away
She makes me wait away
My Poor Eyes
My poor eyes
they're always running
they go much faster than all that of me
to see my eyes is to see the lovely bugs
the ones i crush
and the ones i let fly in my poor eyes
wishing them immortal with their glass wings
i have glass wings
but they move slow
and run me down like gravity
everything i see
it won't lift me
the lovely bugs die with glass wings
i have glass wings
it will be moments until I've been wished immortal
Black Box
I can see myself
made simple
framed to perfection
staring
find the light
behind my mind
is darker from outside
level to my face
my mind behind
find my light

Until We Have Reached Time
Kailyn Neidetcher

There are only days left,
I mean hours,
No, I mean seconds,
There are only seconds left,
And the time that ticks in between,
In between the rationalizations
That the power of our seconds,
Is much greater than our hands and minds,
Because seconds from now even this will be gone,
The words that I have written
Are the recordings of Time,
Because he told me so horrendously,
That he has the power to move much faster than we will ever find,
So I make sure not to find my eyes on palms and keep my heart to beating slow when Time creeps closer
Because the moments I was wasting could have been possibilities of smiles,
Smiles, that start running down my face but only Time can melt my mouth in with my skin,
And my skin melts deeper in my bones, and even they will remember perfection,
But perfection will not be nor has it ever,
Because it is the image in our heads,
Because our heads are dreaming,
And even the Greatest dreamt,
And even the Greatest met their second,
But the Greatest created the lines that we listen to so they are whispering into the worlds,
And with no jealousy let us realize that they are immortal,
Because the same people are a part of this time to take you and provide,
Just like Time has given to you,
And even the Greatest warned us that this is all there is,
But we move slow and learn fast with the many seconds time spares us,
We learn from the moments that take us in,
Inch by inch,
Deeper and deeper,
Until we find ourselves hoping they wrote about us down on paper,
Because we’re finding ourselves stroking our slowly beating hearts,
Until we have reached Time,
And our last second.

skin keeps me close
Kailyn Neidetcher
I have been swimming in it for days
I breath it in and push it out
not being able to see
the sad things that once could pass me
only thoughts and memories
those keep me going
past the fears thrashing against my ribs
I keep to holding on tight
and I wade keeping close to handle bars
searching for space to rest
skin so thick
no light is visible
climbing up the tunnel
the only way
find what is there that thing that is light
because I am sitting here
patiently
I am sitting down here patiently
to find that thing that is light
