This past thursday we listened to Kristen speak. She told us that as an artist she had a great struggle with her public art and her personal work, which I think is something many artists can relate with. I have heard that the more selfish or more self obsessed you are, the more successful you seem to be. She also spoke of the materials she used versus the process and how important that part was to her. She explained that the best part of making art was using her materials for the process. Her art involved a clear distinction between human made and the natural. For example her pear piece was one of the first slides. It was a metal frame of a pear, wrapped around a later, dried out pear.
